Another strong week at Cattlemen's Livestock Market as we sold 591 head of cattle, boosted by a successful VAC sale featuring a really solid selection of quality, vaccinated calves.
According to Dave Tomkow, the calf market showed noticeable strength this week, with calves selling $5 to $10 higher. While the cow market softened slightly, trading was mostly steady to $3 lower, with little activity compared to the strong demand seen for calves.
Overall, the market remains in a good position. Dave noted that calf prices continue to strengthen while the cow market has eased back slightly. He expects some ups and downs over the next few weeks before things begin to settle into a more consistent pattern.
Staying Alert on Screwworm
Dave also addressed one of the biggest topics currently on ranchers' minds: New World screwworm.
While it's not something he believes producers should panic over, it is something that deserves serious attention from the cattle industry. The key message is to stay observant, inspect cattle regularly, and be proactive if you notice anything unusual. Awareness and early detection are critical, but there's no need for unnecessary fear at this point.
Rain, Grass, and Herd Health
With much of Florida still waiting on consistent rainfall, now is a good time to keep a close eye on pasture conditions and overall herd health. Make sure cattle have access to adequate forage and continue providing a strong health program.
Holiday Schedule Reminder
Don't forget that next week's sale will be our last sale before the Fourth of July shutdown. Be sure to mark your calendars now so the holiday schedule doesn't sneak up on you.
At Cattlemen's, we're always looking for ways to help producers maximize the value of their cattle through proven health and marketing programs.

VAC Sale Reminder - July 20th
The VAC Program is a voluntary health and marketing program designed to help cattle producers add value and improve marketability. If you're interested in enrolling cattle or learning more about the program, give Dave or Hailey a call at the market.
If you're bringing VAC cattle to the sale, please notify the market the week before or let us know your expected head count. This allows us to alert buyers in advance so they can be prepared for the offering.
