This week at Cattlemen's Livestock Market, we sold 303 head of cattle. According to Dave Tomkow, sale numbers were on the lighter side not only here in Lakeland, but across much of the state.

Overall, the market remained steady. Calves, cows, and slaughter bulls all held their ground this week with little movement from the previous sale.

Dave noted that the market appears to be settling into a fairly consistent range for the near future, with no major shifts expected in the short term.

One topic producers should continue watching is the recent New World screwworm detection in Texas. While it's still too early to know what impact, if any, it could have on cattle markets, staying informed and maintaining strong herd health practices remains important.

"Keep an eye on your cattle and stick with a good health program," Dave said. "We certainly don't want to see anything like that make its way to Florida."

The ongoing dry conditions continue to be a concern for many ranchers. While everyone keeps talking about the rainy season arriving, many areas are still waiting on enough rainfall to grow the grass needed to support summer grazing.

At Cattlemen's, we're always looking for ways to help producers maximize the value of their cattle through proven health and marketing programs.
