This week at Cattlemen's Livestock Market, we sold 774 head of cattle, including more than 400 VAC Program cattle during our special VAC sale. We had a tremendous offering of quality, vaccinated calves, and we're thankful to everyone who participated.
Overall, the market remained solid. The cow market was $2 to $5 higher, while the calf market continued to show some variation depending on the type of cattle. Steer calves were mostly $5 to $10 higher, while heifer and bull calves were generally $5 to $10 lower. Dave expects we'll likely see the market continue this pattern over the next couple of weeks, moving up and down as buyers adjust, but overall prices remain at historically strong levels.
Our VAC sale cattle traded extremely well, and buyers showed strong confidence in properly vaccinated, preconditioned calves. While participating in the VAC Program takes extra effort, Dave believes that work continues to pay off for producers through stronger demand and better marketing opportunities.
