This week at Cattlemen’s Livestock Market in Lakeland, we sold 344 head of cattle, and the market showed some real strength. Cows were steady, and bulls were steady to slightly stronger, while the calf market held steady to about $5 higher, with some calves bringing as much as 10 cents stronger. Overall, the market continues to trend slightly upward and appears to be settling into a stable pattern.

The bull market showed a little more strength this week compared to cows, while calves remained steady to higher. At this point, there does not appear to be anything pushing the market backward.

We are keeping an eye on weather moving through Texas and Oklahoma, as severe conditions could impact cattle movement in the coming weeks. Cold weather is also moving back into our area, and with recent frosts taking out most remaining grass, now is the time to be proactive.

This is the time to stay on top of cattle management. Keep protein, salt, and minerals out, and watch body condition closely. If you have bigger calves still on cows, pay extra attention so those calves are not pulling cows down.

Mark your calendar. The All Breed Bull Sale will be on the first Friday in February which should be the sixth. We already have strong consignments of Charolais, Angus, Brangus, Horned Hereford, Polled Hereford, and F1 Brafords. It is shaping up to be a solid sale.

As always, we thank our buyers and sellers for trusting us with your cattle. If you ever see something we can improve on, let us know. We can’t fix it if we don’t know it’s broken
