Dave’s Market Minute
This week at Cattlemen’s Livestock Market in Lakeland, Florida, we sold 376 head of cattle, and the market continues to show strength across the board.
Cows and bulls were steady to $5 higher, with the cow market seeing gains of $5 to $10 higher in spots. Overall, the market is still creeping upward, and while no one can say exactly where the top will settle, things are looking solid as we head into late winter and early spring.
Cattle numbers are getting tighter nationwide. Sales are getting shorter, and cold weather up north is pushing cattle south, which continues to support demand here. Even with ice, snow, and poor weather conditions in other parts of the country, the market held steady again this week, showing real resilience.
The calf market also remains strong. The board has been holding fairly steady, and despite expectations that weather might pressure prices, it simply did not happen this week or last.
Looking ahead, colder temperatures are expected this weekend. Producers are encouraged to stay ahead of nutrition, including hay, protein, and mineral, and keep a close eye on cattle through the cold snap.
Do not forget, Friday, February 6, is our All Breed Bull Sale. We will be offering a solid selection of Angus, Charolais, Hereford, Horned Hereford, Bradford, and Brangus bulls. When bulls leave our barn, they go straight to town, so come early and pick the one that fits your program.
