We ran 349 head through the ring this week with a good set of cattle and active buyers in the seats.

On the cow side, the market held mostly steady, maybe just a touch softer in spots. Nothing drastic. Bulls followed a similar trend, coming in a little cheaper but still holding solid overall.

The calf market is where we saw the shift this week. After last week’s stronger market, calves came back a bit, trading mostly 5 to 10 lower. Some groups held steady and even showed a little strength, but overall, we gave a little bit back.

Even with that, demand stayed strong, and the ring stayed competitive. That’s what continues to work in the rancher’s favor.

Looking ahead, the market looks set to bounce around a bit through the end of the month. There may be a little pressure here and there, but nothing that looks like it’ll fall off hard. Supply and demand are still doing their job.

With grass starting to green up but not quite growing yet, now’s the time to stay on top of your program. Keep the protein out, watch your cows and calves closely, and remember a healthy calf is a healthy check
